Barış Tan is currently Professor of Operations Management and the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Koç University, Istanbul, Turkey.
He received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Bogazici University, and ME and MSE in Industrial and Systems Engineering, and PhD in Operations Research from the University of Florida. Professor Tan is teaching operations management, management science, and supply chain management courses at Koç University since 1994. He previously served as the Dean of College of Administrative Sciences and the Director of the Graduate School of Business at Koç University.
His current research interests are in design, analysis and control of production systems, cooperation and subcontracting in supply chain management, and analytical and stochastic modeling techniques and applications. He co-edited two books on Stochastic Models of Manufacturing Systems by Springer, special issues of IIE Transactions, Annals of Operations Research, and OR Spectrum. He is the recipient of Turkish Academy of Sciences Distinguished Young Scholar Award, TÜBİTAK fellowship, and NATO Science Fellowship.
Professor Tan held visiting positions at Harvard University Center for Textile and Apparel Research, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Operations Research Center, MIT Laboratory for Manufacturing and Productivity, and University of Cambridge Judge Business School.
Professor Tan is a member of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) EQUIS Awarding Body, ISM University of Management and Economics Senate, Nottingham Business School International Advisory Board, and Turkish Business Council for Sustainable Development Academic Advisory Board. He served on the Boards of EFMD, CEMS Global Alliance in Management Education, and Turkish Quality Association and Turkish Operations Research Society.
